At the Hauraki Gulf Forum meeting this week I stepped down after eleven years as Chair.
I have loved meeting passionate people doing what they can for the Gulf. And where I have been able to, lending a political hand to their work.
I thank Liane Ngamane for her support as deputy chair for the past five years and wish John Meeuwsen well as the new chair.
In this issue of the Gulf Journal I share some of my reflections – insights, successes and challenges ahead.
The stories serve to highlight areas where urgent work is needed: reform of fisheries management, the control of weeds and predators, innovation in seabird conservation and investment in learning and discovery, particularly for young people.
Thank you for your contributions to the Gulf and your engagement with the Forum.
I look forward to seeing more and more positive outcomes around our shores.
